We are proud to share the incredible progress of Professor Carragher’s research project - funded by @thebraintumourcharity and supported with our donations each year since our charity started.

Every step forward brings us closer to answers, and to a future where fewer families face the pain of a brain tumour diagnosis.

Professor Neil Carragher’s research, based at the University of Edinburgh, is one of the largest glioblastoma (GBM) drug discovery projects in the world. The work focuses on identifying new drug targets and testing thousands of compounds to find more effective treatments for this aggressive form of brain tumour.

The team has screened nearly 4,000 compounds and explored how combining these with radiotherapy could improve treatment outcomes. They are also using advanced genetic screening to better understand how GBM tumours respond to drugs, with the aim of making existing treatments more effective.

In parallel, researchers are developing innovative drug delivery methods, including nanoparticles designed to deliver treatment directly to brain tumours while minimising damage to healthy tissue.

Together, this work represents a significant step forward in improving treatment options and outcomes for people diagnosed with glioblastoma.
